Custom Playing Cards for “Game of Thrones” on HBO – George R.R. Martins Book 1 of A Song of Ice and Fire
Ad Magic was contacted by HBO to print a run of custom playing cards for their series “Game of Thrones” – but when the art came in I still had not seen Game of Thrones on HBO. To be honest – I had watched maybe 2 seconds of it while walking by the television one night without having read the book and I thought it was probably not for me based on something I glanced at. This actually turned out to be a first impression that was COMPLETELY off base! After the cards came in and I had a good look at them – I got curious about the HBO series and also about the book itself that the series was based on. So – being an audio book fan – I downloaded Game of Thrones, which is actually book 1 of “A Song of Ice and Fire” by George R. R. Martin. That turned out to be just the beginning of the “year long audiobook adventure addiction” of 2011. I began listening to the book right after we printed the playing cards for the show. The way I did it – I would finish a portion of the audio book and then watch the corresponding Game of Thrones Episode on HBO. By the way – the HBO show is fantastic -the scenery is out of this world and the characters look even better on screen than I could ever have imagined them. You can actually see some of the face cards right here. I can’t decide who I love more now – George R.R. Marin or HBO. – and now my adventure is still going in 2012 as I just started book 5 – “A Dance with Dragons”. After working with HBO on another project I spoke to one of the producers and it looks like there will be more of the books in this series coming to life. I am so excited about this I just had to write about it. 🙂
